The Shipyards location marks the Nook Restaurant group’s fourth Nook location in Western Canada, and the third that Pacific Solutions Contracting was proud to bring to life.
The new Shipyards neighbourhood, nestled right beside Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver, is a true community development. A covered public space acts as the anchor for the area. In the winter, locals and visitors alike can enjoy free outdoor ice skating. In the summer, it transforms into a water park for the community to cool down in. Locally owned and operated businesses circle the public arena, so visitors can enjoy everything from fresh brewed coffee, locally sourced honey, hand-made ice cream, and, of course, a good meal at the handful of restaurants.
We worked closely with the team at Smart Design Group throughout the construction process to ensure that the newest Nook stayed true to its personality while paying homage to the Shipyards’ nautical history. The industrial heritage of the area can be felt throughout the interior space. Guests will notice rusted iron wainscoting in each bathroom, full wall murals from the Shipyards’ photo archives, and cut metal in the shapes of nautical anchors, sprockets, and chains that are embedded in the concrete floors. As with most of Nook’s restaurants, the kitchen takes centre stage at the Shipyards and is the first thing guests will see when they walk in. The rest of the interior utilizes features like wooden slats on the ceiling, design-forward light fixtures, and extensive millwork to envelop the guests in the cozy atmosphere and intimacy that Nook is known for.
In addition to the beautiful 66 seat interior space for guests to enjoy, the Nook Shipyards restaurant also has a covered (and heated!) 34 seat patio space. With breathtaking views of downtown Vancouver in addition to all of the action of The Shipyards, guests will certainly have lots to take in. That’s on top of the always delicious Nook wine offerings, pastas, pizzas, and burrata…yum!
