Most of the work that we get to share focuses on our clients’ interior spaces. Our work at 3305 Cambie Street, however, was primarily all outside. The goal of the building refurbishment project was to transform the building’s 1940’s exterior into something entirely modern and fresh.
The building itself is located right at 17th Avenue and Cambie Street on a very busy street corner. With high traffic and high visibility, the building owners wanted to modernize the building for their tenants and the community. The work for the building refurbishment included:
- Updating the building colour to white with black accent flashing.
- A new metal facade that wraps the building.
- Repairing the old roofing and awning.
- Adding new lighting to the exterior, including linear track lights below the awnings and spotlights on top of the awning that will be lighting up the banners for the businesses.
- A new feature building sign (still to come – stay tuned!)
- New storefront glazing for some of the units, including front windows and entry doors.
This project took place throughout the fall and winter months, so we had to keep the building watertight while we ripped it apart. We also had to ensure that the commercial tenants could stay open for business and were accessible for their customers. Cambie Street is one of the busiest corridors through Vancouver, so navigating and planning the work around the foot and vehicle traffic also presented it’s challenges throughout the project.
Fortunately, we had an all-star team on board for this building refurbishment project, which included W/A Office for the Architecture and Design, Peregrine for the metalwork, PLE Painting for the painting, Crown Roofing for all of the metal flashing, and Glasfurd & Walker for the signage design.
