“A touch of Los Angeles in Vancouver”. That was the inspiration behind Mira Lutsky’s Core Community pilates studio located in the heart of Kitsilano. The warm, welcoming studios and their inclusive attitudes were what she loved about practicing pilates during her time in LA. She wanted to bring those feelings home to her new space dedicated to supporting every body and mind in the Vancouver community.

Designing for the Practice

We worked with the talented Alexa Salter from Hungerford Interior Design to bring the luxe design to life. Thoughtful and beautiful touches were incorporated throughout the entire studio space. The soft lit glow throughout the studio is achieved through cove lighting, designed and built with the guest in mind so that there are no bright lights shining into their eyes during their workout. We also built recessed areas into the ceiling that are anchored by stunning light fixtures. This ensures that the ceiling is anything but boring for guests to look at while on their backs.

Materiality Selection

The materiality in the studio adds to the warm aesthetic. We used rich walnut wood for the millwork which included the front reception desk, the retail shelving up front and the equipment storage and lockers in the back. In the front reception area you’ll find raked plaster walls. The natural stone product we used looks stunning and it also helps control smell and humidity in the space. When it is humid it will absorb moisture and when it is dry it will release it.

We could go on and on about the beautiful space, but what is even more rewarding is seeing the public’s super positive reaction. Instagram has been blowing up since the studio opened and we couldn’t be happier! Whether you’re a pilates pro or new to the practice, this is a must-visit studio for anyone and everyone looking to learn, grow, and support their wellbeing.
