This World’s Ours Centre is an inclusive, welcoming community space in the heart of the city. Dedicated to supporting neurodiverse children and families, every inch of its programming and design is thoughtfully implemented, executed, and supported.
The two visionaries, Allison & Koryn, had always imagined creating a place where ALL families and children felt welcomed. They connected originally through their work as teachers, and both families were raising children and foster children who were on the autism spectrum. They felt there was a need in the community for families like theirs to find a place where they could feel truly seen, understood, and supported.
They designed This World’s Ours with the individual in mind, emphasizing and placing value on the personal experience of each and every child who enters their space. When they found the beautiful historic building at 191 E 10th Ave in Vancouver, they knew they had found the perfect spot for that journey to begin. The unique, heritage space was viewed almost as a way for them to rewrite history and how neuro-diverse individuals are welcomed and supported. From there, the interior design by Evoke International Design incorporated many sensory and interactive elements into the flow and function, including:
- A sensory house
- Full kitchen
- Parent’s room for parents to take a break while their kids are in a program
- Activity and exercise rooms
- Thoughtful material choices contrasted with the original heritage accents
Everything at This World’s Ours was beautifully designed in a soothing colour palette that kids, parents, and design enthusiasts alike can appreciate and enjoy.
