There is a new addition to the Tacofino family – Tacofino Ocho. Housed in the refurbished Lightworks Building in Mount Pleasant, the new space exhibits a sleek style fit for the booming industrial neighbourhood.
Tacofino Ocho is designed to be a gathering space – the restaurant features a long communal table, circular high tops, and a curved bar that occupies the centre of the room. But it is also the negative space, or lack of “stuff”, that contributes to the electric energy that pulses from the space from the moment it opens until the last guest leaves.
A Uniquely Designed Dining Experience in Mount Pleasant
Designer Shiloh Sukkau incorporated some very innovative industrial elements that contribute to this reverberating energy. Some of the design and construction features that are unique to Tacofino Ocho include:
> A concrete bar wall made with a flexible corrugated concrete.
> Textured walls throughout the restaurant that reflect light and sound beautifully.
> A cinder block wall with spaces that have been purposefully left open. The light and shadow movement from these walls are particularly unique.
> Tubular lights that are intermixed with wire cages all suspended above your head, creating a visually interesting story from above.
> A charcoal grill at the forefront of the kitchen, on full display for guests to soak in the “back to nature” feel of the dining experience.
We love how each Tacofino restaurant tells a different story, and the one that Tacofino Ocho is telling is innovative, energetic, and very, very cool.
I have had the pleasure of working with Pacific Solutions Contracting for almost 10 years. Throughout this period we have found their process of budgeting, design/build, collaboration, and actual construction to only tighten and become more efficient as our projects increase in size. Culminating in our most recent project together: Tacofino Ocho in Mt Pleasant. 100 seats with a solid fuel grill and large format bar, a challenging project which they carried off extremely smoothly. – Cord Jarvie, Expansion Manager for Tacofino Restaurants, Owner of Juke Fried Chicken, and Founder of Meat & Bread
