One thing that we love about commercial construction in the social media age is the pursuit of an “Instagrammable” space. Throughout the entire process, from pre-construction planning all the way to service and maintenance, we need to make sure the end result is going to look as good in a selfie as it does in real life. And judging by the Instagram action for one of our latest projects, Kevin & Kevin Juice Bar and Coffee Lounge, we think the social media community is happy with the new photo-worthy spot.

An Environment For Every Mood

We worked with the creative team at MGBA to make this fun, playful, and creative space stand out. Kevin & Kevin is a juice and coffee bar by day which transforms into a tapas and cocktail lounge by night. The space was designed and divided into distinct zones, which includes:

Bar seating to look out of the window (ie: daytime coffee shop working)
High top bar social seating
The hanging “cocoon” chairs
Circle lounge nooks
Booths for a more intimate dining experience
“Grab & Go” juice and coffee counter

The atmospheric room literally changes its colours from day to night. Each of the zones has its own unique sound controls too. So you can come to Kevin & Kevin time and time again and have a completely unique experience depending on where you hang out. The design for the space is characterized by curves, lots of interesting shapes, and is very heavily plant oriented. These playful and organic concepts are reflected in the fresh juice and menu offering which are just as “Instagrammable” as the space itself.

Construction & Collaboration

This project was an interesting one as we were about 10% of the way through the build when COVID hit, and like many small businesses, we had to adapt quickly. Our pandemic policies and procedures had to cover our teams based at HQ and also needed to able to be effective on every unique job site. Luckily we had an all-star ensemble for this project and collaboration was at the cornerstone throughout the entire construction process. MGBA led the architecture and creative design, Peregrine did an awesome job on the unique millwork, and Westpeak covered the electrical needs (including the intelligent lighting and sound system). The stunning mural art is by Scott Sueme and a custom Bocci light fixture showcases it all off. Everyone did everything they could to keep the project moving forward through uncertain times. We couldn’t be more proud of the teamwork.
