Emil Clothing Co. brings a new and entirely fresh shopping experience to Vancouver’s stylish Yaletown district. While the goods itself are exclusively for men, the space has been thoughtfully designed and built to be a space where everyone can comfortably enjoy a shopping session tailored to their needs.
A new retail experience
We loved working with the owner of the store to bring her vision to life, which went further than the traditional retail components. She wanted to turn Emil Clothing Co. into an entire experience for her guests. She wanted them to feel comfortable in the space, to be able to relax in their cozy lounge, and to be able to enjoy their time there from start to finish.
We were going for a very masculine feel when building this store and this can be seen in the variety of material choices we worked with. The wood we used for all of the counter tops and shelving is sapele, a rich and beautifully toned wood. The custom cabinets were all built in our workshop and then painted a very dark grey, and then we added a fresh coat of black paint to the wooden floors. We used industrial black iron pipe for the clothing racks too, which Lucas from our team cut down to the perfect size for the thoughtfully laid out clothing racks.
The owner and her designer found an inspiration photo of their dream mirror for the changing room, however we were having a hard time sourcing it. So we made it! We worked with the team at False Creek Fabrication to design and fabricate the custom frame (all from a screenshot) and then had the glass custom fit to the panels. It came together beautifully and the end result is the perfect finishing touch to the dressing room area.
So stop by Emil the next time you’re in the Yaletown neighbourhood. There’s something there for everyone – whether it be a new addition to the closet or a comfortable perch in their lounge while you sit back, relax, and enjoy the cozy space.
