The fight against COVID-19 in British Columbia has been real. We all did our part from mid-March through to June – staying indoors, shifting our business models, and keeping our distance. The efforts paid off, and we are very fortunate to see some of those restrictions being lifted in our communities. Our favourite local businesses are now starting to open their doors and let us in again.
One positive effect of COVID-19 has been the issuance of temporary patio permits for food and beverage establishments by the City of Vancouver. From June 1st to October 31st, the Temporary Expedited Patio Program allows businesses to set-up temporary patios in the following areas:
- In an on-street parking space adjacent to a business
- On a sidewalk adjacent to a business
- On private property
With the expedited program, the application process is free and the permit can be expected to be received within two to five business days of a completed application being submitted. The types of patios that can be built under these permits must be much simpler in terms of construction, but if they help get us all get outside and stay safe, we’ll take it!
