The catalyst behind us launching this company came quickly and easily, and almost so naturally that we couldn’t imagine beginning any other journey. Brandon and I were in Montreal this summer, enjoying our first real vacation that was just the two of us. It was really romantic. I’ll spare you the gushy details, but being in this state allowed us to remove ourselves from our hectic, everyday Vancouver lives and dream a little. Who are we and where we were going? What do the next few years look like for us? And a whole lot of “Wouldn’t it be fun/great/exciting/amazing to do_____?”
That last bucket is where Pacific Design Lab landed itself…
“Wouldn’t it be great, if we could provide well constructed, thoughtful home furnishings to people like us. Real people. Who have real, comfortable homes and who want those homes to be reflections of themselves…without paying a ridiculous fortune for it!”
The thought planted itself there, and over the next few days developed into an idea that began materializing as soon as that plane landed at YVR. I’m not kidding – we were at Staples in hours picking up white boards and photo printers for this new found obsession.
Oh, but I must admit – this passionate business plan had one other serious competitor. We did do some competitive dumpling intel while in Montreal as we plotted how to open a dumpling shop in Vancouver. You got it – all sorts of potsticker/gyoza goodness. That’s all I’ll say for now. You never know what could happen in a few years!
