Passionate people produce exceptional results. And when it comes to coffee and baked goods, the owners behind Lumine Coffee are putting their exceptional passions and talents to work in their new cafe.
Growing up in his family’s cafe, Varot was introduced to coffee culture from a very young age. He has always loved the experiences of all of the senses when it comes to coffee – from the taste, to the room itself, to how it all makes you feel. Wannita takes care of the baking side of things at Lumine. Everything is made in house under her technical direction and attention to detail.
The idea of illumination, or enlightenment, was the inspiration behind the name and everything that went into the creation of the space. The interior design was done by the team at W/A Office and incorporates a little art deco mixed with Japanese zen themes – a reference to Varot’s ancestral roots. Nothing is too sharp nor angled, and instead is characterized by soothing tones and curved lines.
White oak and copper plating are two primary materials used throughout the space. The front bar features these stunning materials and is beautiful to look at as guests peruse the menu and retail selection. Walking down the arched hallway leads to the back seating area, and in the warmer months, out to the courtyard patio. From the textured plaster to the white oak panelling, the zen space is the perfect place to sip a coffee and settle in for the day.
And trust us, you’ll need all day to try the delicious coffee on the menu. The coffee roasts will be rotating every 3 to 4 days, showcasing the best of Canadian roasters from coast to coast. Combined with the tempting baking scents coming from the back kitchen, Lumine Coffee is proving to be both a neighbourhood coffee shop and destination cafe all in one illuminated space.
