Tacofino’s famous West Coast fare has finally made its way to the beach side streets of Kitsilano. Nestled in the heart of West 4th Avene, Tacofino Kitsilano exudes the relaxed coastal nature of Tacofino’s Island roots and new home.
As with many of their past builds, including Gastown, Mount Pleasant, and Oasis, interior designer Shiloh Sukkau took the creative reins for the design of the new Tacofino Kitsilano space. The goal was to transform the previous rundown restaurant into a fresh local spot for both eating in and taking out.
The coastal theme can be felt throughout the space. Immediately upon entry you’ll notice the electrical cables that roll throughout the restaurant like cascading waves. Instead of covering up these existing cables with a wall, they were intentionally incorporated into the design and construction. Utilizing existing elements that are still functional benefits the environment by reducing our material needs and also saves on costs for our clients.
The millwork follows suit with the coastal theme. The creative joinery of A.G. Creative Design follows the movement of the waves and runs the length of the restaurant, all painted in a sea-inspired pastel green colour. Hand painted strokes in coordinating colours carry all the way to the bathrooms. At the front of the room, simple elements such as organic shaped menu boards and the soft corners of hallway openings add to the nature-inspired feel of the space. You’ll also notice how the counter is finished with a glassy rock wall, mimicking BC’s rocky shores.
As with every Tacofino, the Kitsilano location is serving up exciting new menu items in addition to the classic favourites that we know and love. All of which are perfect for eating in or grabbing to-go for those epic Vancouver sunset hangs that we also know and love.
